In Zone Focus: Slumdog of Bandung By Kazry

It is a rare occasion for me to get out of Singapore as I am always busy with work, and when I am not, I am dead broke!
So I had a chance to rest without thinking about work when a friend, Fandy offered me to assist him to shoot his client in Bandung, Indonesia, free-of-charge!
An all paid for trip, without thinking much, I said,”Let’s go!”
I was not sure if I would have enough time to shoot film as I might be busy holding lights for Fandy and by then the sun would be down.
But I just brought along my M2 and a few Portra and HP5 and had it with me all the time.

There were nice natural scenery in Bandung but I am not really a fan of them, until Fandy decided to go somewhere a bit more busy.
So we walked along the streets and back alleys, fully geared and ended up in a village where houses were barely two meters apart from each other, some lanes totally devoid of sunlight, with naughty, happy kids running around.
Reminded me of “Slum Dog Millionaire”.

So while Fandy was shooting his pre-wed couple, each and every household got curious when neighbors started talking about “film stars” in their village.
I wasted no time and started shooting curious villagers popping out of their home to catch the glimpse of the “stars” (they thought we were making a movie).
Some shy away when I took a picture of them.
A group even asked Fandy for model fee when he asked them to join in with the couple.

I was happy to catch this moment as this was one of my last few shots with my M2, then after it got jammed and the only way is to ward it to Singapore’s very own rangefinder specialist, Master Tay. – Kazry Kas Kazan
