Photo Essay: Colombo, Sri Lanka By Alex Lee

Sri Lanka, an island with a population of about 20 million, south west of India. Old name – Ceylon. Famous for it’s tea and I remember learning about Ceylon tea plantations during history class in school, but that was a long time ago.

Sri Lanka is also the birth place of the LTTE, the Liberation Tamil Tigers of Elam, a ruthless terrorist army that was engaged in a long drawn civil war with government forces before it was fully destroyed in a bloody final battle from 2007 to 2009 by the Sri Lankan armed forces. The LTTE introduced the suicide bomber to the world.

Today, they are no more, but what other even more deadly threats will we face tomorrow?
Today, Sri Lanka is rebuilding itself. There is optimism and hope. Life is returning to normal, slowly but surely.

The following images were captured in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka, with a Minolta CLE with the Voigtlander 28mm Color Skopar and a 40mm Minolta Rokkor lens.
