Photo Essay: Moments Of Grey Captured In B&W By Hyder

My wife and me went for a short trip to Hong Kong and Macau recently in September 2011. The weather during the 4 days was cloudy and intermittent light showers. The deal was when my wife shopped, I shoot the streets. So at least, we both got our priorities aligned.

Both Hong Kong and Macau provided excellent photo opportunities. I was actually looking out for the elderly and capturing their moments. Some of these images made me weld in my eyes. Of particular mention would be the man kneeling on the road at night in Hong Kong and the lady in Macau collecting from a garbage can. These reminded me that income/wealth distribution even in a developed country like Hong Kong can be of great disparity.

In Hong Kong, as neon signs are in abundance, do shoot it with varying techniques. Also, i experienced shooting in the rain, evident in the shot of the man in raincoat. I was holding my camera in one hand and an umbrella on the other.

I would definitely suggest that if in Macau, go off the beaten track and explore. You wouldn’t know what you will see/shoot.
